Water Bottle Must-Haves

Am I  the only one that obsesses over the little details when selecting a water bottle? The littlest things truly make or break if I use a water bottle or if it is sentenced to an eternity in the back of my cupboard.

Staying hydrated is SO essential to feeling good. Not only can thirst be mistaken for hunger, but dehydration can leave you feeling sluggish, achy, and run down. Restore your glow- sip up! The general recommendation is to drink about 1/2 ounce of water for every pound that you weigh, daily.

It’s definitely better for absorption reasons to sip throughout the day over chugging all-at-once. That is, unless you really like your bathroom.

Disposable plastic water bottles are wasteful to the environment and allow tiny plastic particles to leach into your water. You know how water left in the car on a hot day starts to taste plastic-y? That’s because it IS plastic-y.

A glass water bottle would be best, but with my life right now there’s no chance it’d survive a week without being dropped a few dozen times. I won’t get into the time I tried making hot tea in a previous glass bottle and it shattered instantly…*sigh*

I know I'm not alone in having a 'favorite' water bottle...right?

I know I’m not alone in having a ‘favorite’ water bottle…right?

Here’s my checklist for the PERFECT water bottle.

  • BPA free plastic:    for durability & safety reasons
  • Pretty, refreshing color:    for fun reasons
  • Ounces clearly marked:    for accountability reasons
  • Lid that covers mouthpiece:    for germ reasons
  • Narrow mouthpiece:    for anti-spilling-humiliation reasons
  • Easy grip for carrying:    for mess prevention reasons
  • Classy Logo:    for professional college pride reasons

Do you look for specific details in a water bottle? Please tell me I’m not the only one that’s this critical.

  1. I am with you girl! I’m still on the hunt for the perfect water bottle, I like it to hold at least a litre but I don’t want it too bulky and don’t get me started on the bottle that open in your bag!

  2. Kinda in the same spot. Have things I want and need but for now I’m using whatever I have. But I really could use a better one. The one I have now leaks just a tad and it’s annoying.

  3. Cute! Love this post. I actually carry an old GT’s Kombucha bottle around with my water. It is glass, but I have yet to drop it, thankfully! It holds exactly 16oz of fluid, so I love knowing that I need at least 4 bottles in a day. I also like the size of it – it fits easily in my grip :)

P.S. I know all about putting hot liquid in a glass container. I did this too and had glass everywhere within seconds! :'(

  4. I’m pretty obsessed with water bottles, especially over the past 6 months or so. I’m really trying to up my water intake and they have been essential to that. I fill up my cup in the AM, drink it on the way to work, fill up throughout the day and bring a full cup to bed. Anyhow, my favorite are more like cups…just BPA-free plastic cups with lids and a straw. I just drink more out of a straw rather than bottles that don’t have a straw.

  6. Not plastic. All plastics decompose and not just bpa. I got rid of all plastic food containers. I get aquasana water bottles and mason jars for everything else.

    • I understand your concerns, Dan. This blog is intended to be a practical and beginner-friendly guide to wellness. For me, it’s just not realistic to try to be perfectly healthy all the time- it’d be very easy to drive myself crazy :)

  7. My water bottle is an extension of my body – I dehydrate really easily so I always have it with me! I get teased all of the time because I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect water bottle forever. Mine must be BPA free, totally leakproof, have a covered mouthpiece, hold at least 750 ml, have a finger loop for carrying and be a pretty color. I have a Contigo one now that’s pretty good. I found my favorite water bottle ever at Winners, but I’ve never seen one there again.

  8. I couldn’t agree more! I’ve been using my pretty pink camelbak drink bottle for years now! Pretty colour, bpa free and easy to drink from is my checklist!

  9. Completely feel you. My water bottle broke one day before my workout and I felt out of place with my replacement. Mine needed to be 32 oz. with a straw. I’ve noticed when I go strawless I drink a TON less during workouts. My Contigo bottle is perfect!

  10. I swear by my kleen kanteen. Its stainless and I can put water in it with ice, leave it in my hot car and the next day there will still be ice in it! Mine is 20 oz. My kids have the smaller ones. They are the best. They come in many colors. I will never ever go back. Plus I can use it for hot drinks too!
