healthy ‘ice cream’

Every week I buy a pile of bananas, peel them, break them into chunks, and throw them into a gallon size bag in the freezer.

peel bananas & break into pieces before freezing

When I’m trying to stay on track with eating well but get a craving for some of the cold & creamy stuff, this recipe can hit the spot!

  • 1 banana (broken into 3 pieces and frozen)
  • 1 tbsp water (approximately)
banana ice cream

Dairy-free, clean eating, 5 minute treat!

That’s it! I pop the bananas into my Ninja blender single serve cup and add a splash of water for consistency. Seconds later, it is the same consistency as soft serve ice cream. This recipe is all over the internet in various forms, I first got the idea from Pinterest a few years back.

The fun part: variations. Cinnamon, vanilla, peanut butter, chocolate chips, frozen strawberries, unsweetened cocoa powder– you can alter this to fit most any taste profile.

It’s perfect because it prevents feeling deprived, but still has wholesome nutritional value. Bonus points: Bananas are gentle on the stomach, a great source of potassium, and can help banish bloating- #win.

  1. A friend of mine told me about this a few weeks back and so out of curiosity I gave it a google. I’ve been making banana ice-cream every week since! A handful of dark chocolate chips in it and I’m able to deal with chocolate and ice-cream cravings at once, I love it!

  2. I’ve been meaning to try this after seeing it everywhere! I’m not one to hate on ice cream, even though it’s STILL UNDER 32 DEGREES. I’m not bitter……I’m definitely giving this a try, and absolutely adding some dark chocolate chips!!

  3. This looks as delicious as it tasted when I first made this recipe from an idea I learned about many years ago and I loved it! Thank you for the reminder as summer is around the corner.

    • I’ve heard that before! This may be a silly question, but does it make it taste coconutty? I had a bad experience in kindergarten that has given me a repulsion to coconut flavoring haha
