Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for our bodies. Unfortunately, they’ve gotten a bad rap because most of us can overeat them more easily than any other type of food (chips, crackers, pasta, pretzels, etc.). We can break carbs down into 2 categories
1. “Bad Carbs” = “simple carbs” = spike in blood sugar then crash. think: cookies, soda, white bagels, muffins, etc.
2. “Good Carbs” = “complex carbs” = provide gradual, steady energy. think: whole wheat breads, brown rice, oatmeal, beans, etc.
Any diet that tells you to avoid carbs is mostly playing you into simply cutting calories. Rather than feeling deprived of carbs entirely, try making switches to good carbs, aka ‘complex’ carbs, and keep everything in moderation.
